Painters’ Exhalations

—after Garland Oldham’s Mr. Brown Pelican

Head of stilled old man’s cane
leaning
understanding unused silence,
mask of altered ambulation.
Pelican’s gray, an ink of calligraphic
outline on sky’s textual stillness,
awaiting writing’s hand of feathered
composition, prose, the postulating of
sacred text unknown by mans’
decomposing appreciation.
